Pair of red jasper bowls

Pair of hand-sculpted eighteenth-century style tubs as per the execution of the Roman master sculptors. Agate red jasper was used, a stone belonging to the quartz family, a stone used by the Russian nobility. The vases are all carved from whole block, the handles are built into the block. The preciousness of the tanks is given by the generous dimensions, the beauty of the marbles and the complexity of the workmanship.

Red jasper agate

Jasper is a type of semi-precious hard stone that is often used both as an ornamental stone and for the creation of objects and jewellery. The typology used in this work is of Russian origin, in the area of the Carpathian mountains. In these lands, jasper was often used to pave the floors and walls of the most luxurious rooms, including the palaces of Russian nobles, during the period of the Tsars.

Processing technique

This pair of vases has been handcrafted down to the smallest detail by our sculptor. Starting from the “S” bevelling which is the outstanding feature of these works, to the finely worked lid, up to the creation of the interior. Everything has been excavated and polished in an excellent way by our sculptor through the skilful use of tools specially designed to work this exceptionally hard material and thus be able to create this unique work of its kind.
