Parian Marble
Parian marble is a precious white marble Greek origin. It's considered the white marble par excellence. Famous for being used both in statuary and in architecture, it has become one of the most symbolic marbles of the Greek period. It was also widely used in Roman times to make architectural elements.
Processing technique
This piece was carved and engraved using the undercut technique. This technique consists in digging the outline of the figure not only at a square, i.e. at ninety degrees as is normally used, but also behind the outlines of the figure. In this way it is possible to create greater relief in the composition, thanks to the effect of the shadows.
